Meet The Designer Nataly Brunner

  1. Tell us about your (artistic) background?

I come from a simple family, but I think this is what in fact indirectly influenced my creativity. I always had the need to change something in better and do it in a different way, in my own way. No one and nothing influenced me and this helped me to be who I wanted to be. I never felt in a mass trend. That’s till now I guess.

  1. How do the places influence your work?

Once in 6 weeks, I am in Moldova for one week, in atelier working with the whole team. After that – I don’t disturb the team and let them work on the planned goals. They are all professionals and need their freedom. That’s one of my places. The other place is my private atelier where I work on my ideas and visions. And another place is where I write, work on online appearance and talk with people that are involved in different projects. All places together build the system of work. I can work everywhere, but I try to make it so that I am most productive. Maybe you will laugh, but for me, it is most important to have a kitchen around. I always forget to eat when I work, so the existence of a kitchen around helps to keep me healthy. 🙂

  1. What are you working on right now?

I am working on the organization of a big photo shooting that will take place at the end of August. It will be the photo session of my first unisex bags collection for Philini and the launch of the new line of bags under the brand Nathalia Nouvelle.

  1. You are from Moldova and live in Germany. How did these two countries influence your style?

I think these 2 countries more influenced my way to work, but not my style. I suppose if I will move to Japan, I will still have the same style. The style evolves based on my own experience in work, age, a way of private living, not on countries.

  1. What tools could you not live without?

I could not live now without my voice recorder. It is a small tool that helps to record a lot of things that I must do or new ideas running through my head, without stopping my work or what I do at the moment.

  1. As a professional and entrepreneur, what tips would you give to anybody who is looking to get started in design or blogging?

It is a circle: if you want to have good partners, you should become a good partner on your own. Therefore, working on your own quality and way to be it is the main work. Find the people which have that strong skills which are your own weaknesses to complete each other. If you have a more creative character, find the one with more structured and technical, financial thinking. Be ready that you will want to give up at least 10 times before you will achieve at least some positive steps and even so, you will be criticized damn a lot. Learn to handle it. Only you know your own forces and how far away you can go. It is hard work. If you believe that with a little bit here, a little bit there you will achieve the same results as the ones that are on top, better do not begin at all. Because once you become a bit better – you will come between people that really work on the dream of their life and they are from a totally different energy league.

Always find time for dreaming and thinking about the next steps.

  1. Walk us through a typical day in the life of Nataly.

I would say that typical is only my morning: wake up, open the windows, coffee, check all important messages what I must answer immediately. The rest – I plan everything based on my energy, not on time. I must go into the weekend with a fulfilled list of completed tasks, no matter when I did them. That’s it. If not, then I will work also in a weekend.

  1. What books, music or artists inspire you?

Music is very important. It is the basis of all my visions. I am always looking for new one. Movie soundtracks often help to focus. The books of Carlos Castaneda impressed me. Hard to read, but very intensive ones. I read a lot of business and spiritual books. Always 2 in parallel to not get fixed on one point only.

  1. The poem that touches your soul…is?

It is a translation, but hope it can touch you too…Don’t know the name of who wrote it, but sure a romantic. 🙂

You did slide into my life so softly as light

Fulfilling every corner of my soul

With a love that is so loud

As the noise of the summer

Making the sunny sounds

As an eternal love confession

Knowing that after 7 days

After 7 years and 7 generations

The shadow of every kiss in the world

Will remind about a noble love

That had a prepared verdict from the beginning…

  1. What item in your closet do you wear the most?

I am the type that prefers less, but favorite things. You will not see me shopping every Saturday. But I love my boyfriend-jeans. Tank tops.

  1. What is the best gift you’ve ever received?

I would say the most valued gift that I received is from my brother. Last year I lost him, but before he died, he managed in the last years to teach me the biggest part of his knowledge in computer things, in building web sites and understanding how to solve the problems that appear. He was excellent in this. And this knowledge gives me now a very big freedom in doing what I want without depending from an extra professional in my online appearance. He managed in 2 years to teach me most of what he did. And the best of all is that he left me a huge collection of music and movies that he loved and which gives me forces every time I need to move forward.

  1. What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

Mistakes are normal. And the difference between the one that achieves something and the one that not, is the speed of the ones learning from mistakes and moving on to the next try. And how important it is to rehabilitate fast from a failure.

  1. What do you do when are not working?

I spend my time with my family or my friends. Very often, I am simply lazy watching a movie or laying in sun in the garden. I am not the type that will climb mountains and do the best to be in the middle of attention at a party. I value a lot my silence where I can recharge my energy. I travel enough with work. That is why I am not in a big need of a lot of traveling in my free time.

  1. What’s your biggest inspiration?

My mother. She managed to be 48 years old to go to work to another country, learn a new language and new mentality. And until this age, she was an extremely shy person from nature and full of fears. She changed completely, in a very positive way in my eyes. It has shown me that there is no age and no limits if you really want to change something in your life. And even if she lost her son, she still finds the strength to see the good in people and find fascinating things in her life. That’s for me very inspiring and powerful.

  1. The happiest moment you will cherish forever

The birth of my son.

  1. If you could live the life of another designer, illustrator or creative, for a day, who would it be, and why?

I am very thankful for my life and how my life is. It is hard to exchange on something else. But for the curiosity, I would like for 1 day to live the life of Peter Lindbergh. I think this person has a huge integrity attracting many other special people.
